The business cards design has constantly evolved. From the wood-cut and letterpress techniques used in 18th – 19th century, to any shapes, sizes and materials (in 20th – 21th century).
However, there are still few rules that should be followed in order to have successful business cards.
The first rule is to keep their design simple and easy to read. The name of the company you represent, the logo, your name and the contact data are the most important information that must be displayed on the front of the business cards.
The second rule is to set a connection between your business card design and the area of your activity. The colors, the shape, the typography and the finishes used for your business cards must “speak” about you and your business.
- The colors – When choosing the colors for your business cards, keep in mind that every color sends a subconscious message. You should peak the colors that match with your business and with the market you are targeting.
- The typography – Fonts have a “voice”, so choose one that best represents who you are and make sure to choose one that is easy to read. Select the fonts that represent you in the best way, but take into consideration that they must be easy readable, too.
- The support – The quality of your business card says a lot about you. In these days, we could find business cards on paper, but also on plastic, wood, metal, cotton, leather and so on. You should choose the support that represents you. Remember that a cheap support for your business cards is the last thing you need.
- The uniqueness – If you want to have business cards that are apart of hundreds of other business cards, select a design, shapes , sizes and/or finishes that transform your business cards into a referable item.
- Feel – the touch is an important sense that we all have and ….. that our business cards should transmit. Use the shapes, dimensions, the special finishes to transmit these feelings.
